Product Development Chef

In your role you will report to the Lead Development Chef and will be tasked with assisting in driving our “Food on the Move” Innovation development in line with DELI LITES strategy.

You will play a key role in developing new and exciting products based on clear product briefs, ensuring these products are delivered on time and within cost and that all NPD staff have full knowledge of what is currently in development.

A passion for food and an interest in consumer & market trends.

Experience in product development, translation of product briefs, adhering to a product budget with quality product outcomes.

Have a network of industry experts to call on for projects.

Have a can-do mentality and used to problem solving.

Resilience combined with emotional intelligence to build collaborative powerful relationships.

Effective communication and presentation skills.

The ability to assess data and translate into concepts and products.

Computer literate (MS Office, Intact, Powerpoint)


Demonstrate innovation by the market including interpreting and monitoring consumer trends, new relevant concepts, and product innovations, and share with wider business.

Create and assist in initial product & packaging costs.

Follow the NPD stage process from the Idea Generation, through to Product Launch by working closely with the wider NPD team.

Dispatch product samples to customers with all relevant documentation for ease of use when it reaches customer.

Assist with the preparation of dishes for photoshoots.

Help with the preparation of and provide kitchen support during the NPD tasting sessions.

Support the New Product Development team on testing recipes with proposed new ingredients.

Discover and develop new ideas for dishes or improve on current dishes and assist in problem solving within recipe design and production.

Participate at supplier development days and other relevant events to support new customer bespoke products as part of the development process.

Ensure that you are striving for minimum food waste and encourage sustainability and cost awareness during the preparation and storage of food.

Conduct concept snapshots to bring the entire team on board at an early stage to pre-empt any potential issues.

Assist in the development of consumer friendly and market leading packaging and labelling across all product categories – Chilled, Frozen and Bakery and present new concepts that are aligned to our sustainability programme to the commercial and operations teams.

Be involved in production trials for sign off on new product standards and processes.

Prepare products for visitor tasting sessions and support hospitality as required for such events.
